About this Website
Very similar to my first radio
This website is dedicated to the culture and evolution of audio formats since the vinyl record: cassette tapes, CDs, and MP3. The change from analog to digital brought a long of interesting changes in how people interact with their music. This site is to provide the basic information to music enthusiasts and those merely interested in how these formats work physically and to describe how users of these formats and their corresponding devices continue to change much like the audio formats do over time. From vinyls to MP3s and record players to iPods, the personal use and experiences of music are completely different from previous formats and mediums. Music players are continually popular and every where a person looks, and that is mostly evident with the popularization of the Apple iPods. However, the mobilization and evolution of music has taken quite a journey, and it's informative and explanatory to learn where these formats evolved from to understand the overtaking of the MP3 today.
About Me
My name is Holli Shepard, and I am an junior at Purdue University. I am majoring in English Education, and hope to someday teach Language Arts in a middle school or high school. I grew up in a small town known as Logansport, Indiana. I am the youngest daughter of three in my family, love music, and am quite nerdy in my own unique way. Growing up I remember buying cassette tapes, then CDs, and now am the owner of an iPod which I currently store about 32 MB of music on. I love having almost all my music in one place. Still, growing up in the birth of the digital era, I hold quite a bit of nostalgia for analog, and still own many CDs, a number of cassettes, and am working on my collection of vinyl records to play on my record player. My musical tastes range from alternative and indie rock to oldies and a lot of classic rock. I can not imagine the world without music, and I value the vastly different musical experiences in my life. Therefore, I am glad I did this topic and learned about the different audio formats that have been so important in my life, because it's interesting to see where we have been and wonder where music will go in the future.
